WHO IS José Luis Acuña?

José Luis Acuña Romero (1943-2003), son and apostle of the Divine Will, was the first translator and first editor of Luisa Piccarreta's writings into Spanish. He was the first in Mexico to acquire the writings of Luisa in 1972, to read, study, meditate, and to desire, from that day on, to live in the Divine Will.

He had a solid religious-spiritual preparation. From a very young age he began to read books on Catholic Doctrine, Church History, Theology, Morals, Spirituality, Pontifical and Church Documents, the life and works of the Saints ... and of course the Holy Scriptures. All these helped him to understand the Spirituality of Living in the Divine Will very clearly and in accordance with Catholic Doctrine.

As time went by, he shared these Writings with a great number of people, and he was asked to help with his explanations on how to better understand this Spiritual Life, and how to go deeper in putting it into practice in daily life. He received invitations to give talks in conferences and retreats in Mexico, Costa Rica and the United States. Some of those talks were recorded, and that is why these are available for sharing now. In fact, the Diocesan Tribunal for the Cause of Luisa's Beatification asked Jose Luis to give lectures during the First International Congress on Luisa Piccarreta, held in Costa Rica in December 1995. He was also the first translator and editor from Italian to Spanish of Luisa's writings. All this work was done in communion and obedience to the Church, in communion with his own Bishop and with the Archbishop of Trani -- the diocese to which Luisa belongs -- and in union with the Association of Corato "Luisa Piccarreta, Piccoli Figli del Divin Volere." Jose Luis also collaborated with the Diocesan Tribunal for the Cause of Beatification of Luisa.

Some of those who have preached or currently preach the Divine Will in Spanish knew Jose Luis Acuna, who passed on the Writings to them and shared with them some of his knowledge about the Divine Will. In the first part of the video "Jesus Redeemer/Luisa Piccarreta" he gives an important introduction before presenting the main theme.

And in the video "History of Luisa Piccarreta 2/ Cardinal Ratzinger and Archbishop Ricardo Guizar" Jose Luis talks about his cooperation in the events that led to the Church opening up again to Luisa and her writings, which later culminated in the formal Opening of the Cause for Luisa's Beatification (November 1994).  Listen to an excerpt of this recording....

Without forgetting that Luisa has the substantial and important part in Living in the Divine Will -- through her Writings that contain the teachings given by Jesus, and her example of how she puts these into practice -- Jose Luis Acuna's teaching style within his lectures are easy to understand and help us to build a solid foundation of both the historical validity of the writings in addition to living them correctly within the Catholic Doctrine, throughout our daily lives.
